The GitHub for Medical Devices

Why Open Medical Device Guidance Exists

Regulatory knowledge should be shared, not sold. Open Medical Device Guidance is a free, meritocratic platform where professionals create guidance together and get recognized for their contributions.

The Story Behind It

I'm Dr. Hatem Rebeh, Medical Doctor, Biomedical Engineer, and Clinical Evaluation expert. I created Open Medical Device Guidance because I lived the frustration firsthand.

When I tried to contribute to regulatory guidance, I was told to join committees. The answer? Long. Very long. Archaic bureaucracy. Years of waiting for simple updates. Closed groups where even reading a comment costs money. Documents locked behind paywalls. Knowledge that could save lives, sold like a premium product.

Meanwhile, in the software world, I saw something completely different: GitHub. Open-source. People sharing code freely, reviewing each other's work, building on each other's contributions. Recognition through merit, not membership. The give-first mindset. The give-back culture.

I thought: why can't medical devices have the same thing?

So I coded the platform. But I'm just the one who started the initiative. The real gem is the community. Every template created, every review given, every star earned... that's the collective intelligence that makes this valuable. I always used free resources made by people who believe in giving. This is my way of giving back.

“Safe medical devices save lives. The knowledge to build them should be free, open, and shaped by the people who use it every day, not locked behind closed doors.”

What We Believe

These aren't marketing slogans. These are the principles we built the platform on.

Knowledge should be free

Like medical publications, regulatory guidance must be accessible to everyone. Not locked behind paywalls or closed committees.

Meritocracy, not membership

Recognition comes from the quality of your contributions, not your credentials, employer, or wallet. No fees to participate.

Community decides quality

The best templates rise to the top through community stars and peer review. No gatekeepers. No elite committees. Collective intelligence.

Give and give back

Inspired by the open-source community. We use free resources every day. This is our way of giving back to the professionals who need it.
